Heartburn/Acid Reflux Home Remedies using Rooibos Tea

You may already drink rooibos tea but just know it by another name - red tea or red bush tea. Like chamomile, ginger, and cardamom, rooibos is known for alleviating many ailments such as insomnia, soothing tension and helping with depression, as well as relieving stomach and digestive problems such as heartburn/acid reflux.

Rooibos is also one of those herbs that doesn't contain any oxalic acid so it can be safely used by people who suffer from kidney stones. Recent scientific studies have shown that drinking rooibos tea can have other benefits, as it contains anti-oxidants which attack the free-radicals in our body which can weaken our immune systems.

If you want to lose weight, either to help with heartburn or for other reasons, rooibos can help here as well as it has been medically proven to help control appetite in addition to controlling blood sugar levels, and hence your craving for certain foods.

So with all the benefits that rooibos tea has to offer, besides helping to alleviate heartburn/acid reflux, it is perhaps not surprising that some people refer to it as a wonder tea.

Rooibos tea can be drunken either hot or cold, making it the ideal all day, all year round thirst quenching drink. Due to its growing popularity, you can normally find rooibos tea (or green rooibos tea) on the shelves of most supermarkets. Failing that, your local health store is bound to stock it.

To make your rooibos tea, place 1 teaspoon of rooibos into a cup and add freshly boiling water. Cover, and let it steep for a minimum of 4 minutes. You can either drink it as is, or add milk, honey, sugar or lemon for a change.

Making iced rooibos tea is just as simple. For 1 gallon you need to use 1-2 ounces of loose tea or 6-8 tea bags. Brew these in 1/2 gallon of water for anything between 6 and 12 minutes, depending on the flavor you want. Once the mixture has cooled down, dispose of the tea bags, or strain if you have used loose tea then refrigerate the mixture. If you want you can add ice, or top up with cold water. As an alternative, try adding lemon, honey or other sorts of natural juices to change the flavor.
